Turn a wine party into a scavenger hunt
June 18, 2009
One of the things wine lovers enjoy is discovering new varieties of their favorite drink, so why not hold a party based on that idea?
Send out party invitations, maybe shaped like a wine glass, and tell guests to choose one of the Big Eight and look for the most unique brand they can in their area.
For those who don't know, the Big Eight refers to the eight most popular wines in the world and is split evenly among the Reds and the whites.
Red wines on the list are: Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Syrah/Shiraz. Whites have Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris/Pinot Grigio.
Include this list in the invitation and make sure the selection is spread around the guest list so the wine party isn't heavy on any one type.
Provide cheese and fruit as a way for the wine drinkers to clear their palette and be sure there is a cleaning station nearby in case someone wants to rinse out their glass.
As an added element of fun, give a prize to the person who finds the bottle with the most interesting taste for the event. The award can be silly, like a bunch of plastic grapes.
