Celebrate your heart songs
July 29, 2009
Talking about music has always been a way for some people to pass the time, either because the conversation gets so engrossing or because a slight disagreement breaks out concerning which is the best Led Zeppelin album (it's the first one. Deal with it).
Last year the rock band Weezer came out with the single Heart Song, which had lead singer Rivers Cuomo to creatively list the songs that "never feel wrong."
This is a basis for a heart song party, where your guests show up with a collection of their heart songs and explain why to the group.
In the party invitation, be sure to mention that everyone is bringing a couple of different songs that are either their all-time favorite or hold a special memory for them.
Be sure to have a way to play music in different formats. While some people may come with a CD, others may come with their MP3 players. For them, computer speakers will do.
If you think your guests may be too bashful to participate, have everyone write down the memory and the song. Then play it without revealing whose it is.
Who knows? If the right song comes on, you may have an impromptu dance party on your hands as well.
