Plan a preseason football party
August 14, 2009
The superbowl may seem like a distant, snowy memory but consider hosting a preseason football party to get back into the spirit of the game and to welcome a new crop of matches.
Since games are spaced out, it makes sense to plan ahead and look at listings to find out when your team will be playing. Once you've narrowed down the evening or weekend afternoon, drop a quick line to your friends, telling them of the time, place and anything you'd like them to bring.
Encourage guests to dress in their team's colors or wear their football jerseys - it might still be too warm for hats and scarves! To show your team is best, go ahead and decorate the house in appropriate shades, since it is your party. If rival fans good-naturedly object, remind them they can host a similar gathering in their homes.
Superbowl food should be perfect for munching and not too healthy. Of course, chicken wings are a staple and vegetarians might enjoy meatless buffalo 'tenders' available in many supermarkets.
For healthy snacks, get or arrange a vegetable tray with dips, hummus and pita chips, as well as falafel balls and kebab skewers with shrimp and bright veggies.
