Welcome the fall season with fun backyard games
August 26, 2009
Though the summer is still here for a couple more weeks, some party planners may be gearing up for the upcoming season and trying to figure out how to welcome the fall.
According to this year' calendar, the first official day of fall will be on September 22, which is roughly a month away.
A backyard party can always be a fun celebration. Provided the weather agrees, consider a late afternoon start. This will allow your guests to be outside as the sun sets, offering what some photographers call the "golden time."
For food, serve items like squash and corn, which are in season with the fall. One fun activity that will entertain your guests and help prepare the meal is to have a corn husking competition.
Give a couple of people four to five pieces of corn and see who can strip away the husks the fastest. Consider giving the winner a party favor filled with Halloween candy (which is around the corner as well) and having the people who didn't win wear hats made out of the husks. It should make for some hilarious pictures that everyone can enjoy.
