A great "pick" for fall

Apple-picking season is upon us, but the fun doesn't have to stop as soon as you load up sacks upon sacks of your most prized Macintosh or Red Delicious varieties.
When you've returned home with more apples than you know what to do with, a post-picking party can be a good way to use the fruits of your labor.
While you're waiting for your mulling spices to fully saturate some fresh, homemade cider, keep the kids away from the tube and have them give their favorite apple a face using buttons, sewing pins, glue, felt, and any other household oddities. To create an edible apple personality, you can offer candies, cereal, or other small snacks and attach them with a tasty adhesive, such as honey.
Bobbing for apples is another fun and entertaining way to use your apples. Fill a large bucket with water, toss in the fruits and let the battle of the bite begin.
The champion of chomping will, of course, expect a reward. Apple crisp or pie with ice cream topped fresh whipped cream is a delicious way to end your apple antics.
