Modern day mad men (and women)
October 02, 2009
The third season of Mad Men, AMC's critically-acclaimed drama, is finally underway. One way to welcome the latest episodes of the under-the-radar, slightly-hipster show, is, you guessed it, a Mad Men themed party.
Men in attendance can pay homage to Don Draper, the show's archetypal protagonist. Draper sports a classic 1960's wardrobe that is easy to parody - skinny ties and narrow suits, usually worn while sipping a martini (Old Fashioned), straight up.
For the ladies in the crowd, pearls are a must though corsets are optional. Check out a few episodes to get inspired by working-girl Peggy Olson or bored housewife Betty Draper.
Make sure to serve your guests some classic cocktails like Manhattans or whiskey sours, and take advantage of the theme to offer up some delicious, quintessential '60s party foods -pigs in a blanket, deviled eggs and fondue.
Hand out party-favors and costume-enhancers to guests as they come in - candy cigarettes (lucky strikes), gloves and costume jewelry like cocktail rings for the ladies, and cheap cuff links or old-fashioned fedoras for the guys. Throw some Smokey Robinson or Ray Charles onto the record player and let the good times roll.
