Sinfully delicious poison apples
October 26, 2009
If you're feeling a little witchy this Halloween, consider conjuring up a batch of poisoned apples to tempt and delight kids and adults alike. Martha Stewart offers a recipe for decadent candy apples that offer a delicious alternative to traditional Halloween candy.
Start out with about 15 pink lady apples. Look for the smoothest and most symmetrical for the prettiest results. Cut out the stem and insert a skewer into the space.
Meanwhile, heat up one and a half cups of sugar with a half cup of corn syrup on the stove and let the mixture cook for about 15 minutes. Remove from the heat and slowly add in half of a cup of heavy cream. Stir the ingredients together to create a rich, gooey caramel.
Dip each apple into the caramel mixture and then immediately roll it on a tray of crushed pistachios. Let the apples cool and then drizzle them with melted chocolate. You can use dark, milk or white chocolate, or even a combination of all three.
These delicious snacks make great party favors for a Halloween bash. If you're feeling ambitious, make a giant batch - they're the perfect treat to hand out to trick-or-treaters in your neighborhood.
