Celebrate (and mourn) Mad Men season three with a finale party
November 05, 2009
Fans of Mad Men will tune into their favorite program with a heavy heart this Sunday, which marks the 12th and final installment of the critically-acclaimed show's third season.
Last week's episode left viewers on tenterhooks. Why not host a Mad Men finale party so that everyone can watch the dramatic conclusion together?
Suggest that guests come as their favorite character to keep things fun. Don Draper requires skinny ties and a dark suit. Swirl an Old Fashioned, Don's drink of choice, to complete the ensemble. Memorize a few lines of classic advertising copy and recite them with conviction while dreamily staring off into the distance.
Party-goers can achieve Betty Draper's classic style in a floral, sixties-style cocktail dress and a pearl necklace. (A cigarette is a non-negotiable prop for anyone attending as the chain-smoking housewife.)
Anyone dressing as Roger Sterling, Don's business partner, requires a head of silver hair, a suit, and bottle of Smirnoff vodka try to find an old label and tape it to an empty bottle for a truly authentic touch.
Hang up as many vintage advertisements as you can find for party decorations. Serve guests a traditional meat and potatoes meal a la Betty Draper, or stick to some of the classic New York City deli sandwiches that Sterling Cooper provides for their clients.
Avoid any Mad Men themed party accidents. Earlier in the season, a character's foot was run over by a ridinng lawn mower. Under no circumstances should you allow guests to start or operate any John Deer equiptment.
