Make birthday parties special despite the holiday season
December 03, 2009
Kids look forward to their birthday parties for months. For those with a birthday that falls within the holiday season, it can be difficult to find enough time and energy to create a unique party. Everyone deserves for their big day to be special!
For birthdays close to Christmas, parents can take party planning in two directions. One option is to completely ignore any holiday party decorations. Make sure that not one strand of tinsel or one string of Christmas lights makes their way into your party planning.
Choose something that your child loves, like a movie or hobby, and base the party on that. Get themed party favors and invitations as well, and bake or purchase a decadent cake.
Or, go the exact opposite direction. Take advantage of the seasonal cheer that abounds at this time of year and create a winter wonderland.
Have kids decorate their own Christmas cookies and play holiday music in the background. If you live in a cold climate, have a snowman-building contest.
For those without snow, have everyone make their own Christmas card with glitter, makers and construction paper to give their families.
