Throw a stupendous 40th birthday party
July 13, 2010
Although it is negatively referred to as being "over the hill," turning 40 is a significant milestone in a persons life. To make it that far, one must have had to overcome at least some obstacle and achieved a certain level of success that is worth celebrating. Still, many people consider it to be the first step toward becoming old, and dread the date when it finally arrives. Of course, everyone know turning 40 is not the terrible spectacle it is made out to be, so why not throw a fantastic 40th birthday party for that special someone instead.
Humor is a good way to deal with something that may not be a joyous occasion, so when it comes time to send out invitations, consider doing so with some lightheartedness. For instance, over the hill invitations can be a good way to playfully tease guest of honor. For personalized invitations, maybe you could even include an inside joke that those invited would appreciate.
While decorations for a party in honor of an adult are not nearly as ornate as ones for a child, that does not make them any less important. Consider hanging a banner that can convey a group message. Guests can even write their own personal well-wishes on the banner throughout the course of the event. For this particular bash, a 40 Life is Great Banner would be a great choice. Subdued colors are a good idea given the more mature setting, but that does not mean the decortications have to be boring. Forty string decorations hanging from the ceiling could be a nice, subtle reminder of why everyone has gathered together. A black metallic fringed table skirt could be a nice final touch to give the soiree an understated, classy feel to it.
As was the case with decorations, the supplies will need to appropriately reflect the target demographic of your shindig. Using plates, napkins and cups that have clever witticisms on them are a good idea. When someone is eating a piece of cake and looks down at their plate and it greets them with "what's one more candle?" it's sure to get a rise out of them. Music is a great addition for any get together and a 40th birthday celebration is no different. An "Aged to Perfection" CD is the perfect way to set the mood as it features a long list of timeless classics. Birthday party extras are important as well. Providing guests with happy birthday or the big 4-0 eyeglasses can be a good idea. Having the birthday boy or girl wear a crown could be a hilarious addition, as well.
If you know someone who is staring down the barrel of middle age and is not happy about it, throwing them a great blowout could be just the solution to their sadness. Hanging out with one's closest family and friends is the best medicine and it is sure to have them feeling 18 again in no time.
