It's Playoffs Time! How to Throw the Ultimate Hockey Theme Party!
April 09, 2012
When you have a hockey fan in the house, whether it’s field, ice, or air hockey, you know their passion for the game can get a little out of hand at times. But just because they turn into screaming, raging fanatics during a game doesn’t mean you can feed their passion with a hockey-themed party for their next birthday or the next time their favorite team makes it to the playoffs.
Invite your other hockey-loving friends to your bash with personalized hockey invitations. Sure, digital invites are easier in this day and age, but personalized invitations, especially these cute hockey invites, are so much fun for anyone to receive! Doesn’t everyone love getting an actual letter in the mail instead of just bills and catalogs? Just warn your guests they run the risk of being tossed in the penalty box if they forget to RSVP!
Decorating for your hockey-themed party can be a fun prospect, even if you’re not a fan of the game yourself. Start out with a custom hockey theme banner. You can personalize your hockey theme banner with a message for your birthday boy or girl, the winning team, or for whatever occasion you’re celebrating. Next, cover your tables with hockey table covers and add some fun hockey centerpieces in the middle. Or, use balloons in your favorite team’s colors to create balloon bouquet centerpieces and tie them off with our hockey puck balloon weights. Set each place at the table with hockey paper goods like hockey plates, lunch napkins, and drink cups. Toss some hockey danglers up on the walls and ceiling and your decorations are good to go! Your guests will love that you’ve set the scene for a great hockey party!
While beer and nachos are the typical hockey game foods, you might want to have a little more on the menu for your hockey party. But sticking with finger foods that are easy to snack on is probably a good idea. Buffalo wings with a variety of sauces are a popular choice. Have a range of flavors, from mild to hot, and, if your guests are adventurous, you can have a wing eating contest to see which of your guests can handle the hottest wings you throw at them! Just have a lot of milk on hand to put out the fires in their mouths! Chips and dips, like salsa, taco dip, and hot cheese dip with pretzels are a good choice, as are popcorn, mozzarella sticks, and potato skins. And if you have a really hungry crowd, the old standby of pizza is always a crowd pleaser! Make brownies that resemble hockey pucks by cooking them in cupcake tins instead of the traditional brownie pans. Just spray the pans well so the cooked brownies pop out easily! Or, frost a circular cake with dark fudge frosting to resemble a hockey puck! Breadstick or pretzel dough can easily be rolled into hockey stick shapes before cooking. And, to complete the hockey themed food and beverages, fill that cupcake pan 1/3 of the way with water, then freeze. Once the water is frozen, twist the pan, or run the underside under hot water and pop out your hockey puck shaped ice cubes! Float them in sodas, a punch bowl, cocktails, or any other drinks you might be serving. Your guest will love your creativity!
And if you’re looking for a couple hockey-themed games to play at your party, try this spin on the tradition Pin the Tail on the Donkey game. Draw a picture of a goalie on a large sheet of paper. Blindfold guests and have them try to pin the puck in the goalie’s hands. Whoever gets closest wins! If you don’t mind the noise, you can also rent an air hockey table for the afternoon. What hockey fan will be able to resist playing air hockey all afternoon? Just be sure you have your referee whistle on hand to call foul when needed!
With just a little ingenuity, you’ll be able to pull off an awesome hockey themed party that will impress even the most die-hard hockey fans! And don’t be surprised if, at the end of the party, your guest of honor carries you off the field, or at least around the room, on their shoulders and declares you the MVPP – Most Valuable Party Planner – ever!
