Get into the Holiday Spirit by Planning a Holiday Movie Watch Party!
December 04, 2012
Take a break from the stress of the holiday season by inviting your friends over for a Christmas movie party! More laid back than a traditional holiday party, easily planned at the last minute, and the perfect excuse to get together with friends without having to get dressed up in your holiday finest, prepare plenty of fancy foods, and be sure your home is perfectly decorated and ready for guests, a Christmas movie party is fun for guests of all ages.
Invite fellow Christmas nuts to bring over their favorite holiday movies for an afternoon or evening of holiday-themed entertainment and you may be surprised at how quickly your party space fills up! Your guest list is only limited by the number of seats you have in front of the television, so fill up all the floor space, chairs, and couches you can with your favorite friends for the big event. No need for fancy invitations for this type of event, emailed invites are perfectly acceptable for a laid back Christmas movie party. Just let everyone know they have to RSVP so you know how much popcorn to have on hand!
Since your house will already look festive for the holidays, you won't need to worry too much about decorating for your movie party, but you'll need to do a little pre-party prep to ensure everything runs smoothly. Start out by setting up a buffet table with plenty of finger foods for guests to munch on throughout the movie. If you're tired of Christmas themed parties, go with an unexpected twist and use Hollywood themed paper goods for the buffet table instead of Christmas paper goods. Popcorn cups are especially appropriate for serving your popcorn for the evening! If you just can't imagine a Christmas movie party without a holiday themed buffet table, stock your table with fun and festive peppermint plates and coordinating Mingle All the Way napkins for guests to clean off their sticky fingers!
Plan a menu full of finger foods that can be prepared ahead and easily replenished throughout the night. This way you won't be stuck in the kitchen while everyone else is enjoying the show. Popcorn is a mandatory item on your movie night menu, but make it a bit more festive by sprinkling some red and green sugar on top of the warm popcorn. Not only will this turn the tasty treat into the perfect Christmas colored snack but the sweet and salty flavor mix will give your guests a pleasant surprise! Fill glass bowls with chocolate covered pretzels, candied nuts, and favorite Christmas candies, like candy canes, mints, M&Ms in red and green, chocolate kisses, and peanut butter cups. Set out Santa Claus serving trays and snowman serving trays filled with Christmas cookies, crackers and cheese, as well as heartier snacks like quesadillas, chicken wings, and egg rolls. For a larger crowd you can even serve pizza and sub sandwiches between movie showings.
Once your guests arrive, hold a vote to see which film will be the first showing of the evening. Depending on how long your party is will determine how many movies you'll be watching. Mix and match popular movies like "Miracle on 34th Street" or "It's a Wonderful Life" with shorter films like "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" or "Frosty the Snowman." Adding in shorter films the kids like will also ensure your party is fun for everyone!
Make sure your party space is comfortable for everyone. Toss large pillows on the floor and have plenty of blankets on hand so no one catches a winter chill. If you're lucky enough to have a fireplace, toss a log on to add a cheery glow to the room, along with a couple cinnamon-scented pine cones, which will add a pleasant aroma to set the mood.
Once everyone has arrived and filled their plates with all your yummy holiday treats, it's time to settle in for an evening of holiday cheer and Christmas fun, so don your favorite Santa plush hat and let everyone know that you'll be taking charge of the DVD remote and helping them trade their Bah-Humbugs in for plenty of Christmas cheer and holiday happiness!
