Kickoff Summer with a Pool Party!
June 11, 2013
Make a big splash for your next event and plan a pool party! After all, isn’t one of the best parts of having a pool being able to share the fun with your friends and neighbors? We’ve got some helpful tips to make sure you’re ready to kick off the summer with a pool party that’s fun and relaxing for you, as well as your guests!
Let your friends know all the party details with a fun summertime invitation that you can personalize with all your party details. Sure, email or texting is easier, but invitations are a more personal touch that your guests will appreciate!
Pool Party Decorations
Since the centerpiece for your pool party will be the pool, you can plan on keeping your decorations simple. One fun idea is to have inflatable palm trees around the pool to make it a bit more tropical. And a few pink flamingos would be appropriate as well! String some flower lanterns around the deck for a festive touch and transform your picnic tables into tiki huts with raffia umbrella covers and flowered grass table skirts. Pull some lounge chairs around the pool with a few extra towels in case your friends forget theirs and have some extra bottles of sunscreen on hand as well to protect everyone from sunburn. Throw some rubber ducks in the pool and your party space will be ready to go!
Pool Party Activities
Plan some pool activities for your guests to enjoy. Classics like Marco Polo and water tag are always a hit with kids of all ages. You can also split the guests into team and start up a friendly game of water basketball or volleyball. Another fun option is to clear the pool and throw weighted objects, like quarters or marbles, into the water. Have the kids jump in and see who can collect the most in a set amount of time. To make it even more challenging, separate the guests into teams and toss in items of 2 different colors, making sure the teams only collect items of their color. Whoever collects all their items first wins! Perhaps a giant inflatable fish would be the perfect trophy? Whatever activities you plan for the pool, it’s important that there are always at least a few adults monitoring the pool at all times to make sure the swimmers are safe.
Food for the Pool Party
Pool parties and barbeques go together like peanut butter and jelly! Simple hot dogs and hamburgers will keep the hungry swimmers happy and can be paired with simple sides like potato and macaroni salads, deviled eggs, corn on the cob, and chips and dip. Or, another option is to choose simple buffet foods that you can leave out for your guests to nibble on throughout the day. Set a table with platters of fruit salads, shrimp cocktail, veggie platters, tortilla rollups, finger sandwiches, cookies, brownies, and other sweet treats. In order to keep the bugs away, keep everything under fabric food covers that will help your food stay fresh and insect free! Stock up on pool party paper goods and fill a beach ball inflatable cooler with drinks and you’ll have everything you need to keep your guests happy throughout the day!
As your pool party winds to a close, turn down the lights to discourage the bugs from congregating and pass out some glow sticks to keep the kids amused and let the adults kick back around the fire pit as the sun sets on your perfect pool party that your friends will remember for the rest of the summer! Just be prepared for everyone to ask if they can come back next weekend to do it all over again!
